The Steelmens absentee list for this fixture was again longer than a Carl Baugh mortgage meeting !!

Wysome,Stinton,Spiteri,Quarterly,Power and Hooper were all unavailable. Tanner was pushed out to wing back , Baugh moved into the back three , Sully and Smith were brought into the middle of the park and Perszewski recalled back up front .
Having played the Quins only a month ago this was always going to be a tight game and the Quins didnt surprise anyone when they began by confidently passing the ball around with some excellent movement . The first chance of the game fell to Perszewski who fired wide after 10 minutes. Quins first chance was from a cleared corner , when the ball broke some 25 yards a speculative strike caught keeper Chris Hart off his line and the ball struck the cross bar .Within a minute Llanwern were on the attack and should have scored when Vaux went through but was foiled by the keeper. Perszewski again missed a glorious opportunity when well placed to score on 26 minutes and on 34 minutes a poor clearance by the Quins keeper fell to Vaux who had a clear run back at him to goal but opted for a chip straight into his hands , definately the wrong option !! A great inswinging Currie corner should have created more for the incoming Shire but the flight decieved him and the ball was cleared . The game was a quick flowing game but for all their football the Quins failed to test Hart in the first half with the exception of the early long range strike .

HT 0-0.

No changes were made at half time and the Wern were immediately on the front foot again , the evergreen Mattie Smith working tirelessly in the middle of midfield with the youthful Ashley Sully . The back three for Llanwern looked more of a solid unit and despite carrying an injury Binnings made some telling tackles and won the lions share of heading duals . A chance for both sides on the hour mark were both wasted but on 64 minutes a superb ball from Baugh found Perszewski who out muscled his marker and fired a rightfooter into the bottom corner of the net for his 25th goal of the season !
Smith and Sully were replaced by Taylor and Corey and Perszewski by RRedman .
Llanwern had Hart to thank for two excellent saves in the last 15 minutes and again Vaux could have sealed it with 10 minutes left . The Wern defended admirably and deserved the narrow victory although spurned chances seem to be the one thing that needs to be rectified .
With six players unavailable and some players playing throught the pain barrier this was a good win against a young and fit quins outfit .
Lets hope that Saturdays fixture will be kinder on the availability front and injuries and niggles clear up quickly ??
