Without 10 squad members it was always going to be a difficult game . Richie Shier and Mike Vaux were carrying slight knocks so rested ,Matt Currie and Tony Shier were still a few games away from full fitness , Carl Baugh , Mark Redman and Mike Aviss were left out of the 14 , Marcus Power and Richie Bingham were left on the bench and Troy Quarteley and Denis Spiteri working .
This gave the opportunity for first starts of the season for Gareth Wysome , Ashley Sully , Rhys Redman , Ryan Corey , Steve Stinton and Mattie Smith .
Again it was a poor start to the game for Llanwern with a free kick 40 yards out giving a free header in the area to Monmouth to take a 1-0 lead . Within 10 minutes it was 2-0 when the Steelmen again failed to clear.
On 20 minutes llanwern got one back when a superb Dan Bailey volley from 12 yards smashed into the net but within 3 mins it was 3-1 when the Llan defence switched off from a through ball and were again punished .
On 40 minutes a great run from Steve Perszewski into the box saw him upended resulting a penalty and a second yellow for the under pressure Monmouth defender and an early bath . Cheski slotted home the pen to make it 3-2 in Monmouths favour.
With a strong wind now in their favour and the extra man advantage llanwern laid siege to the Monmouth half ,a double sustitition introducing the delightful Power and the experience of Tanner on the hour mark plus patience and good ball retention made it 3-3 after 64 mins when the impressive Stinton slammed home from 12 yards . The loud Monmouth crowd now fell silent and a few took the early drive home !!!
Monmouth were now relying on scraps and when "DD" was given a red card on 70 mins for being a little bit petulant and then remonstrating with the ref and the Wern bench and Supporters in the stand it was game over . Further goals by the ramraiding figure of Perszewski and 2 from Bailey to claim his hat-trick were only marred by Tanners straight red for dissent .
It sees Llanwern into the next round of the cup against Barry Town and a positive to go into saturdays league game with Pontyclun .
