Oh dear oh dear when will the luck begin to return to Llanwern football club ?
Before the availability and report it should be reported a completely flat second half performance cost the side dearly , after controlling the first period and no excuses can be made .Now despite the horrendous injury list and availability of players any line up hat this present Llanwern squad puts out can compete with any side in division two of the welsh league and this is a credit in itself to all.
New keeper Craig Margetts dropped out of the game at the last minute due to work leaving Manager Laurence Owen no choice but to put on the gloves for the third consecutive game , Danny Penn and Marcus Power were working , Leighton Golledge suspended , Luke Fernquest injured ,Steve Perszewski unavailable , so only 13 players were available again.
Matt Smith and Matt Pimm made up the bench with recalls for Mike Vaux , Ashley Sully , Mike Binning and Denis Spiteri.
Llanwern dominated the opening exchanges and on 13 minutes Matt Currie opened the scoring pouncing on a bakl just inside the area and blasting in from 15 yards , Owen was beaten with Llwycoeds first effort on goal though on 22 minutes when the centre forward was allowed to head down in the box and the ball was tucked away by the incoming Coed player . The Steelmen were soon back in front when Vaux shut down the opposing keeper whos hesitancy allowed Vaux the chance to rob him on the edge of the box and stroke home the ball into an empty net for 2-1 . Mike Aviss was found with a great through ball on 32 minutes and his run in one on one with the keeper should have put the game beyond the home team but he struck his sho at the onrushing keeper , at the other end it was Owens turn to make a save on 36 mins when a piledriver from the edge of the box was turned away for a corner from a full length save from the keeper Llanwerns bad luck struck in the 38th minute when the lively Nick Aherne went down with what looks like serious knee ligament damage and had to be stretchered off the pitch and be replaced by Matt Pimm .

HT 1-2

After being in control of the game the word in the dressing room was nice and tight for 20 mins , it couldnt have gone any worse though with 2 goals conceded in the first 10 minutes , a free header at the back post and a scuffedd shot through a group of stationary Wern defenders leaving the Steelmen trailing 3-2 ..
in truth neither keeper was troubled after the initial 10 minutes of the second half and Llanwern only have themselves to blame after seemingly being in control of the game at half time , the only incident of any note in the second period was the withdrawal of Mike Binning with a hamstring injury leaving the squad desperately thin , the only positive being there is no fixture next weekend so hopefully allowing a few players time to recover. With all the problems it was and could have easily been 3 away games on the bounce victories but such is life and football . Onwards and upwards !!
