No rain , No snow , No mud so game on at Newport Stadium as the temperature dropped below freezing on a bitter night .
Although it was good to get a game on , the midweek fixtures will play havoc with player availability with Fernquest , Spiteri and Currie all working and Binning and Aviss both unavailable . Matt Pimm and Ryan Corey came in for starts and the evergreen Matt Smith again started in midfield .
As expected this game was an end to end affair as both sides like to play foottball and get the ball forward early the only surpris e was at half time the game was scoreless this was due to a couple of decent saves from jamws in the Coed goal .
HT 0-0
The second half was a completely different affair , Llwydcoed opened the scoring on 53 minutes only for the Steelmen to equalise 5 minutes later when a superb run down the right hand side saw Hooper out pace his opposing number and whip a superb cross into the box that Mike Vaux met with his head to leave the keeper no chance . On 61 minutes it was 2-1 Llanwern this time Vaux the provider , again getting joy down the right side and his first time cut back found Ashley Sully who beat a defender to the ball and finished from 10 yards .
It was 2-2 on 70 minutes and from a direct free kick on the edge of the box , questions may have been asked about the wall as the ball went in a good few feet from the far post !!
The Steelmen were still playing counter attacking football and it was top scorer Marcus Power who put the home team in front on 74 minutes when a lovely through ball saw him control the ball get in front of his marker and direct the ball into the far corner with a cool finish. It now looked like the Steelmen would see the game out to a finish but with 14 minutes to go a free kick on the touchline saw the already booked Luke Palmer kick the ball away and the referee brandish another yellow card followed by the fatal red one . From there on in it was like the Alamo as Llanwern had to defend for their lives and the visitors made the extra man count , as the clock hit 90 minutes a shot bounced back of a defender on the edge of the box and a shot was expertly steered into the bottom corner .

FT 3-3

A decent game of football played in the right spirit and well officiated all round , both sides could have won the game but both will be satisfied with a point .
Its the short trip to Cardiff this Saturday to the students of UWIC , Spiteri , Fernquest and Currie all return but Palmer serves his suspension for his red card and Binning and Aviss still remain unavaillable
