oh for a settled side !!!
Luke Palmer sat out due to a one game suspension , Mike Aviss still has two games of a suspension to serve and Mike Binning is still on holiday , so no centre halfs were available and despite intense media speculation Manager Laurence Owen didnt pull on his boots , due to a serious kidney complaint so Denis Spiteri was recalled but in the unfamiliar role in central defence . Mike Vaux was a late withdrawal due to work commitments but Luke Fernquest and Matt Currie returned .
After a decent start Llanwern found themselves a goal down on 15 minutes when defensively they were not tight enough and a spin a+nd well executed finish made it 1-0.
On 27 minutes it was all square when excellent work down the left saw Matt Currie beat two players and leave his marker on his rearend and pull the ball back to the back post where a first time touch and thunderous finish from Keiron Porter on his debut return made it 1-1.
The Steelmen unfortunately suffered even more bad luck on 40 minutes when the returning Luke Fernquest fell awkwardly damaging ankle ligaments and was replaced by Matt Pimm.
HT 1-1
The game was an open affair with both teams playing the brand of football they are known for but despite plenty of decent passing neither keeper was severly tested . the scoreline changed on 66 minutes when a lovely short pass from skipper Richje Shier into the box saw striker Marcus Power turn his marker and get dragged down and the official point to the spot. Power expertly tucked away the spot kick for his 14th goal of the season .
Smith replaced the tiring Currie on 75 minutes and on 81 minutes Porter shoulder rolled his marker and struck a first time shot from 18 yards that agonisingly went wide when it looked odds on to be 3-1.
The hoodoo struck deep into added on time when from a corner Man of the Match Leighton Golledge cleared off his own line only for the ball to strike an opposition player on the back of the head and rebound into the net .
Ft 2-2
Two goals concedeD in injury time reuslted in the Steelmen in a midtable position rather than fifth place , this really has to be addressed and with the next five games being played at home starting this Wednesday this is the ideal time , although possibly four out of the starting line up today will be unavailable !!
SUCH IS LIFE !
