Desoite the absence of Spiteri , Aviss , Pimm , Davies , Aherne , Fernquest and Quarterly the Steelmen were able to put out a decent side on the usual cold and wet Wednesday at Newport Stadium .
Luke Palmer was ashifted to centre midfield and matt Currie filled in at left back and there was a recall after a lengthy absence of Mike Binning at centre half.
The game was lively and end to end and played at a good tempo , it was the visitors who scored first on 15 minutes when a diagonal ball caught Tom Hooper playing the Treharris striker on side and his cool finish made it 1-0. The Steelmens heads fortunately didnt drop and Mike Vaux and Marcus Power should have done better i front of goal , but some delightful football on 31 minutes ended with a Marcus Power sliderule pass into the path of Ashley Sully who clinically slotted the ball home from just inside the box.
On 41 minutes it was 2-1 to the visitors when although the referee was within a yard of an alledged foul he failed to blow his whistle but went on his assistants say so . Unfortunately despite the free kick not being the best strike seen at the stadium for a while it went over the wall and into the bottom corner with the wall and keeper Church maybe at fault?

HT 1-2

The game continued at a quick pace and where as the first half was an even affair the Steelmen really pressed forward and for 25 minutes of the half they were camped in the visitors half with crosses from Currie , Hooper , Vaux and Power constantly entering the box . Some resolute defending , good goalkeeping and a touch of hard luck kept the ball from hitting the net and from a rare Treharris corner the unfortunate Church dropped the ball in the 6 yard box at an attackers feet for 1-3 A breakthrough did come on 64 minutes when Power controlled , beat a man and steered the ball home for goal 15 of the season . Llanwern desperately pushed for the equaliser but it just wasnt their night and a breakaway attack saw it go to 4-2 . The tired figure of Shier was replaced by Corey and Porter replaced by Mcintosh but to no avail as the game ended .

FT 2-4

Another disapppointing result , some superb football at times was spoilt by a lack of strikes on goal and also as seems the norm at the moment the leaking of silly goals , it really is time to dig deep .

Spiteri , Aviss , Pimm and Davies should all be available for this saturdays very difficult Newcastle Emlyn fixture
