It really is backs to the wall stuff now ! Predictions in September were that the availability crisis would be well and truly over by November but alas ,
The long trip to Ammanford was always going to be difficult against a good and organised outfit but Denis Spiteris return was the only plus as we travelled without Aviss , Golledge , Aherne , Fernquest , Shipley and Spins . With only Palmer as a recognised centre back Matthew Pimm had to fill in alongside him .
The home side were sharp from the kick off and knocked the ball around well and deservedly took the lead on 17 minutes when a through ball from midfield found the Ammanford centre forward with too much space and his shot went in from 12 yards out .
Worse was to follow when skipper Richie Shier limped off on 20 minutes with a hamstring injury that will rule him out for a number of weeks , he was replaced by Matt Smith .
Nicky Church made two superb saves to keep the Steelmen in the game and Matt Pimm made a saving tackle in the six yard box when the striker should have scored. At the other end keeper Price made a great save to thwart Power when clean through and Danny Penn saw a shot blocked and one whistle wide .
HT 1-0
The second half was different to the Llanwern norm as they came out on the front foot and dominated proceedings from the whistle with strikers Power and Penn causing problems and the midfield getting on top and pinning the opposition back .
The game was level on 53 minutes when good feet from Power saw him go past two defenders and whip a ball across the six yard box where the oncoming Danny Penn slid in and smashed the ball home .
Keeper Lloyd should have seen red on 60 minutes when a through ball saw him handle outside his box with strikers bearing down on him but the referee only showed a yellow !!!
With only 8 minutes remaining and virtually their first attack of the second half Ammanford went in front , Spiteri had time to clear out wide but hesitated and was disposesed allowing the wide man to cut the ball back to the incoming striker who slotted home from 10 yards out .
FT
Ammanford 2-1 Llanwern AFC
With no league action next week its an easy trip to Division one's unbeaten leaders Goytre in the league cup !!!
Is there a God ? Probably not !!
